Cladding is the secret ingredient to stunning internal walls, and in this article, we’re spotlighting five interior wall cladding ideas you’ll totally want to borrow.

When we took on our huge Modern Farmhouse renovation, we knew we wanted to use cladding on the exterior. But what we never anticipated was how much we’d fall in love with interior wall cladding for feature walls inside the home.

From the living room to the bathroom, the sleek sophistication of interior cladding panels creates strong focal points in this house. It was an opportunity to get creative and add some wow factor to rooms right throughout a home. And best of all, it’s a timeless touch that delivers awesome depth and character to spaces.

Scroll down for stickybeak at five of our renovated spaces that are all the better for including interior wall cladding.

Bathroom Walls

Vertical lines draw the eye up and make rooms look bigger!

From the outset, we really wanted to create a sense of space in this ensuite, especially because it was a completely new room without high ceilings. Running verticle subway tiles up parts of the wall was an easy choice because it created continuity with the Guest Bathroom, but it wasn’t until we saw the Alfresco area come to life with James Hardie’s Axon™ Cladding that we jumped on the idea of using it in the ensuite.

Delivering gorgeous vertical lines all the way to the ceiling, this premium fibre cement cladding doesn’t just offer moisture resistance and peace of mind when it comes to damp walls, but it also draws the eye up. This makes the space feel roomy, luxe and inviting – exactly what we wanted for this coastal bathroom.

The smooth texture of the panels also creates a dynamic touch, contrasting well with the marble herringbone and subway tiles.

Kitchen Bench and Rangehood

Interior cladding works beautifully under the bench

With products like tiles, laminate and stone top of mind for kitchens, few renovators think to use interior wall cladding in this space. But trust us when we say, the result is so effective and hardwearing, it will continue to wow you (and your guests) for years to come.

Again, we used Axon™ Cladding in this dynamic kitchen. However, unlike the bathroom cladding, we opted 400mm groves for a more dynamic finish.

Like all James Hardie products, the panels arrived pre-primed and ready for us to paint, saving time, money and effort.

Aside from the stunning linear aesthetics of this product, what makes it so perfect for kitchens is its durability. It’s resistant to fire, termites, rot and moisture damage. Better still, it’s much easier to maintain that timber because it doesn’t swell, crack or splinter over time.

Living Room Fireplace

Talk about a showstopper!

This fireplace was always destined to be the star of the room, but interior wall cladding took it to a whole new level!

With 400mm groves, Axon™ Cladding brings a stunning linear design to this space and makes it a feature that you just can’t overlook. The strong lines make the ceiling feel high and the room spacious, just what you want in a modern family living space.

But It wasn’t just appearances that sold us on this application, we needed something particularly hardwearing to surround the fireplace. Expertly made with Innovative Scyon™ fibre cement for toughness, Axon™ is also fire resistant. It’s the ultimate partner for this feature fireplace.

Limestone Cladding

Built-in living room fireplace with limestone cladding base.
Limestone cladding goes on in sheets, so it’s quick to install

We fell so deeply in love with the Limestone Cladding used around the outdoor fireplace that we just had to bring it indoors. As fate would have it, the living room fireplace turned out to be the perfect spot to show it off!

Though we mixed up the layout a bit from the outdoor version, it still brings all the same textural richness inside. It’s the wow factor you want in a relaxing room.

And can we talk about the colour? Against the deep wooden tones of the Chevron Nordic Isocore Flooring and the darkness of the fireplace, it delivers gorgeous contrast and complements just about any decor style the owners throw at it.

Guest Room

Interior wall cladding adds contrasting texture to this guest space

Cladding gives this nook more character than plaster and paint would have

In this Study/Guest Room, we wanted to add some texture to the walls without creating a colour clash with the hero cabinetry. Interior wall cladding was the answer and we’re obsessed with how well it works in this environment.

The Axon™ panels in 400mm spacing bring flair and personality to the bedhead and bulkhead, with beautifully defined grooves for the right touch of detail.

The other walls of this room are largely occupied by windows, but had they not been, we’d have jumped at the chance to use more of this!
