Is brushed brass the same as brushed gold?

While brushed brass and brushed gold look the same, they are actually different finishes. Traditional brushed brass tapware typically uses solid brass that is expertly ‘brushed’ to achieve a matte and textured surface with warm tones. Brushed gold tapware, on the other hand, uses a brass base with a gold coating to achieve a bright, opulent finish.

However, with solid brass known to tarnish over time, many modern brushed brass taps use a process called Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) to coat and protect the metal. This makes it more resistant to corrosion and extreme temperatures and keeps taps looking as good as new for years.

FAQs

Do brushed brass taps tarnish?

Traditional brushed brass taps have been known to tarnish over time. However, brushed brass tapware that is finished with PVD makes it super resilient to tarnishing and corrosion. This is what makes it possible for renovators to enjoy coloured metal tapware that stands up to years of use.

Is brushed brass good in bathrooms?

Brushed brass is an excellent choice of tapware for bathrooms because it is warm, striking and elegant. It pairs beautifully with other warm materials like natural wood but also looks incredible in neutral bathrooms. Plus, with a PVD finish, brushed brass is corrosion-resistant and highly durable.

Is brushed brass hard to maintain?

While uncoated brass can tarnish over time, brushed brass that is finished with PVD is easy to maintain. The matte finish makes it less likely to show fingermarks and spots, and the protective coating resists marks and stains from water, heat and chemicals.

What colours go well with brushed brass?

Brushed brass has a warm hue that works beautifully with natural wood, or tiles and paint in tones of mustard, peach or pink. For a more striking effect, many Australian renovators are pairing brushed brass with blues and teals. Of course, neutral shades are also a match made in heaven for this finish.
