Hello!

In 2025, renovators are shrugging off outdated ideas and embracing kitchen trends that celebrate individuality, function and flair.

From next-level island benches to health innovations and technology, the kitchens of 2025 are redefining style, functionality, and smart living – and they’ve never looked more beautiful.

According to Mike Turner, managing director of Sydney-based Nouvelle Designer Kitchens, there are seven distinct kitchen trends set to dominate the renovation and construction circles in 2025. Let’s dive into them!

Multifunctional kitchens

According to Mike, more and more renovators see the kitchen as more than a space for eating and cooking.

“The pandemic made us want more adaptable living space, with the ability to switch effortlessly from work and relaxation to entertaining. And with many people moving to smaller abodes where every centimetre matters, it’s a trend that’s set to continue in 2025,” explains Mike.

Movable islands on castors, flexible furniture, rotating cabinets and two-level islands are among the multifunctional features trending in kitchens right now.

“Integrating ‘non-kitchen’ functions into the kitchen is also trending upwards, such as laundry facilities in a kitchen or butler’s pantry, an office nook or a dedicated refreshment area, such as a coffee station or bar, complete with a wine fridge,” says Mike.

Earthy Colours

In 2025, kitchen colour trends for 2025 are shifting towards earthy and eclectic shades. This reflects a growing preference for colours that ground us and evoke a sense of comfort and security.

“Think cinnamon, plum, mustard, soft green and deep ocean blue, paired with richly grained timbers and natural stone with intricate and varied patterns. The result is a kitchen that feels personal, layered and comforting – perfect for gathering with loved ones,” explains Mike.

Pimped-up islands

So much more than a bench, islands have become multifunctional powerhouses. And when it comes to customising them, the imagination is the limit.

“We’re seeing more customisation than ever, with homeowners designing islands to suit the way they cook, dine and entertain – dream set-ups might include anything from induction cooktops, steamers and electric grills to built-in herb gardens,” says Mike.

Next-level pantries

While a butler’s pantry is nothing new, it has evolved into a highly organized and luxurious extension of modern kitchens.

“Luxe pantries now feature floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, sinks and even dishwashers, with customised storage for small appliances and kitchen essentials and high-end finishes such as marble, solid timber, beautiful veneers and brass detailing,” explains Mike.

Hidden storage

Modern kitchens favour clean lines and hidden clutter, that’s why smart ‘invisible’ storage is a stand-out trend for 2025.

From corner cupboards to integrated charging stations, the latest kitchen storage innovations combine streamlined aesthetics with smart storage.

“People want a kitchen that’s easy to use, with everything close to hand, but keeps the working functions hidden from view – particularly if it’s open-plan and flows into a living space,” says Mike.

Smart technology

In today’s busy world, households are gravitating towards features that make everyday life more efficient and organised.

“Smart fridges, ovens, and lighting systems that can be controlled by voice or smartphone are increasingly the norm”, says Mike.

Charging stations are another hot trend. These can include device holders in drawers or pop-up USB ports on the island bench.

Health and wellbeing

As more Australians embrace healthy living, it’s only natural that 2025 kitchen trends include wellness features. This includes items like steam ovens, indoor herb gardens and home water filtration systems.

“Greenery will be a much sought-after addition in just about every room in 2025, but especially in open-plan kitchen/ living areas where we spend so much time, helping draw the outside in and making it easier to live healthily, both mentally and physically,” says Mike.
