Ever dreamed of living in a dollhouse? Now you can! Dollhouse Chic is the latest interior trend stealing hearts and the great news is that it’s a lot easier to shop for than you might think.

What exactly is Dollhouse Chic?

Dollhouse Chic is the next step in the “Dopamine Decor” movement, which is all about welcoming nostalgia with open arms and curating a space that’s inviting, a little whimsical and undeniably fun.

While it builds on the Barbiecore trend that exploded worldwide thanks to the Barbie movie phenomenon, Dollhouse Chic is more pared back, refined and adaptable to modern Australian homes.

“The Barbie movie sparked a shift towards bold, playful interiors. Barbiecore introduced ultra-feminine designs, statement furniture, and fun accessories as a vibrant contrast to neutral palettes. Dollhouse Chic builds on that energy but offers a more subtle and adaptable take on the aesthetic.”

How to welcome Dollhouse Chic to your home

The key to nailing Dollhouse Chic is to be strategic with your choices and not overdo them. Unlike Barbiecore, which is bold and unmissable, Dollhouse Chic is a more subtle interior style. It’s well suited to people who want a little whimsy in a few key spots of the home.

To achieve the look, think dreamy pastels, vintage patterns and delicate florals. And don’t forget texture – scalloped edges, plush fabric and the decorative accents you remember from childhood are all invited.

“Introduce playful, organic shapes with accessories like scalloped rugs, curvy cushions and statement lamps. For a more sophisticated grown-up look, focus on carefully curated colours and shapes, and tone down patterns, while highlighting unique furniture and decor. Shapes in statement pieces will also add an elegant touch.”

  • I had never heard of ‘Doll house Chic’ before. It’s cute and I appreciate that it would be right up some peoples alley, but not mine. I would love to like something about it, but I just can not find a single item that I would bring me joy in my home. I can’t imagine a whole house decorated in this style – maybe just children’s room?

  • Um yeah um… the name immediately put me off… to the point I nearly didn’t read the article… and the Lime about dopamine hits… I’m all about inviting happiness into our lives, but dopamine is addictive… but I kept reading and there are some really cute elements. I like the different textures, edges and materials. And I’m always up for some fun. So in summary I liked this much more than I expected!
