If you’ve ever pined for a taste of the British royal lifestyle, you’re going to want to book a flight to the UK fast because Princess Diana’s childhood home has just become available for short-term rent on Elysian Estates.

Perched at the heart of a 550-acre estate just north of Northampton, Althorp is the stately ancestral home of the Spencer family, dating back to 1508.

“Althorp offers unparalleled levels of service, privacy and luxury to rival the finest properties anywhere in the world; yet retains the truly welcoming and homely feel that makes Althorp so special.”

Princess Diana spent her earlier years in this very home before marrying the Prince of Wales in 1981. In fact, Diana’s younger brother, the Ninth Earl Spencer, still resides there to this very day – and if you stay there, you get to borrow his butler.

The house features 32 bedrooms, six of which are staterooms, and accommodates up to 54 guests. There are 25 bathrooms, a games room, a snooker hall, and of course, a library, which was once the finest of its time, boasting over 10,000 titles.

The Picture Gallery accommodates over 200 people and remains unchanged since its inception in 1681. At 115 feet long (35 metres), it’s filled with world-famous artwork, including War and Peace by Van Dyck.

Fireplaces are dotted throughout the house, perfect for snuggling up next to with a glass of vintage port (uh-hem, provided.) Staff are on hand to cater to your every whim and, if you need to duck out to London for an evening of high-brow theatre, there’s a helipad onsite too.

The Marlborough Room is where you’ll dine like royalty on a rosewood dining table that seats 42 guests.

“Guests staying at Althorp have Lord Spencer’s full complement of staff at their disposal, with a highly professional team including your own personal butler, Lord Spencer’s private chef and a housekeeping team who will ensure your stay runs like clockwork.”

When you step outdoors, you’ll find manicured lawns, a deer park, a cricket pitch, a croquet lawn and a private lake. And if you fancy throwing a party, there’s space for a marquee that fits 1000 guests.

Most significantly, Althorp is the final resting place of Princess Diana.
